S.T.C. Core Academy
The Kern Regional Training Center and Bakersfield College will present several Adult Correctional Officer (CORE) Academies in 2024.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office/Regional Training Center working in partnership with Bakersfield College presents the California Adult Correctional Officers Academy (CORE) several times a year. This 200-hour course is the minimum requirement for employment in local jails and private correctional facilities. The academy is administered in a structured paramilitary disciplined environment.
The Adult Correctional Officers Academy offers training in arrest and control, proper use of restraints, physical training, and many more topics. Academy recruits are a combination of Kern County Detentions Deputy Trainees and self-sponsored Bakersfield College students, who, upon completion of the academy can apply for a position as a Detentions Deputy Lateral.
