Public Information Officer

Kern County Sheriff's Office

The Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible for the release of information to the public and media through all available media platforms.

The PIO serves as the main point of contact for the media and handles daily inquiries from the news media, initiates news releases on developing events, and provides live and taped interviews for news reporters.

The PIO responds to major events in order to relieve incident commanders of the responsibility of dealing with the media so they can focus on the situation before them.

The PIO also manages department social media channels for the public.

The Public Information Officer operates under the Office of the Undersheriff.
