Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)

The Kern County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) has a Zero-Tolerance policy against any form of sexual abuse or sexual harassment of inmates detained in its custody. and is committed to enforcing the standards set forth by the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA).

In support of KCSO's zero-tolerance policy, KCSO has established a Detentions Bureau PREA Coordinator to oversee compliance with the PREA standards and respond to any reports of sexual abuse within the jail facilities.

It is KCSO'S policy to promptly, thoroughly and objectively investigate and document all reports of;

  • sexual abuse, or harassment of one inmate by another inmate
  • sexual misconduct by an employee, contractor, or volunteer
  • harassment of an inmate or retaliation of an inmate for reporting or cooperating in an investigation of sexual abuse or harassment.

When appropriate, investigated reports of sexual abuse shall be referred to the District Attorney's office for prosecution.

La Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Kern (KCSO) tiene una políza de CERO TOLERANCIA contra cualquier forma de abuso sexual o acoso sexual de los internos detenidos bajo su custodia, y se compromete a cumplir las normas establecidas por la Ley de Eliminación (PREA) Violación prisión.

En apoyo de la política de tolerancia cero de KCSO, KCSO ha establecido una Oficina Coordinadora Detenciones PREA para supervisar el cumplimiento de las normas PREA y responder a los informes de abuso sexual dentro de las instalaciones de la cárcel.

Es políza de KCSO a pronta, exhaustiva y objetiva investigar y documentar todos los informes de;

  • abuso sexual o acoso a un recluso por otro recluso
  • mala conducta sexual por parte de un empleado, contratista, o voluntario
  • el acoso de un preso o represalia de un preso por informar o cooperar en una investigación de acoso o abuso sexual

Cuando proceda, los informes investigados de abuso sexual se remitirán a la oficina del Fiscal de Distrito para su enjuiciamiento. Cualquier persona que desee ponerse en contacto con el Coordinador de PREA respecto a un abuso sexual, el acoso sexual o represalia incidente ocurre en una de las instalaciones de la cárcel del sheriff puede llamar a 661-391-7309 o por correo electrónico PREAcoordinator@kernsheriff.org
