Technology Services Section

Kern County Sheriff's Office

The Sheriff’s Technology Services Section consists of the IT Support & Telecom Unit, the Network & Cybersecurity Unit, and the Development & Analytics Unit. Technology Services is responsible for all technology-related operations, network, and cybersecurity for the Sheriff’s Office. This consists of maintaining six data centers, servers, Mobile Data Computers (MDCs), Storage Area Networks (SANs), cloud systems, data backups, applications, phones, and reports. Many of these systems must operate continuously 24/7. Additionally, Technology Services serves as the administrator and steward of the Remote Access Network (RAN) Board funds used by other law enforcement agencies within the County. The RAN Board Members approve policy and funding. The RAN Board funds are used for the advancement and maintenance of biometric identification needs, e.g., Livescan, Mobile Identification, and Mugshot systems, among others.
